MESSAGE FROM THE MEC FOR SPORT, ARTS, CULTURE AND RECREATION, MR DAN KGOTHULE
The theme for this year’s MACUFE is “towards greater celebrations”. It means as we enjoy this year’s MACUFE, we should bear in mind that there are greater celebrations coming our way next year. To set the tone for next year, we have packaged the MACUFE 2011 programme in such a way that it reminds us where we come from as a nation. It is our duty as the arts and culture fraternity to entertain, educate and preserve our heritage. MACUFE 2011 carries a combination of these elements. You will be entertained with great performances by our own Free State, national, continental and international artists of high calibre. In our drama and theatre programme, we have introduced the educational plays that are geared to remind us of our past and also for promoting our social cohesion programme. As we learn this history and prepare for next year’s MACUFE, which will also incorporate the centenary celebrations, it is important to preserve this heritage for the future generations and the next100 years.
MACUFE is one of the events that make us proud as Free Stater’s. Since its inception in 1997, it has been growing in leaps and bounds. Since the turnaround strategy on MACUFE was adopted some years ago, we have worked hard to ensure that this festival never disappoints its patrons. This year’s edition is highly organized, prioritizing your safety and security. We hope among thousands of patrons who are here, you will find your comfort space and enjoy all the happenings from the arts and craft market, to film, poetry, comedy, dance, theatre, the centenary village at the main festival and the MACUFE cup.
Welcome to Mangaung and enjoy MACUFE 2011 and see you next year.
