The Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation is immensely proud of the massive extravaganza that the SPARTA MACUFE Cup has become over the years. We are delighted of this sporting event for the reason that SPARTA MACUFE Cup serves as an important platform to showcase our Province to the rest of the sporting world. Moreover, we are also excited that our soccer fanatics in the province are going to be presented with yet another brilliant football fixture in the field of play as usual.

Indeed this event has successfully managed to add flair to the weeklong annual MACUFE festivities.  Part of the commitments we made as a Department is to unreservedly support various sport codes that help us as a Department to foster social cohesion within our communities and the football game is an integral part of that. Naturally, the people of the Free State Province are patriotic soccer fanatics and are well renowned for their patriotism and the support they have for their local football teams playing in various leagues in the country.

One of the mandates we derive from the National Development Plan (NDP) as the Department relates to using sport and recreation to promote social cohesion. It is no wonder therefore; that the Department continues to consistently support initiatives such as schools sport and developmental programmes to nurture young talent. Such initiatives provide Free State youngsters an opportunity to showcase the excellent talent that they have and to hone their skills.

As we continue to reconstruct our society from many social ills that still confront us to date, we are reminded that the goals and aspirations we have for South Africa as set out in the Freedom Charter and the NDP can only be realized if the people are truly united in their diversity and that sport is a vehicle to deliver social cohesion and nation building.

The Department continues to partner with other strategic partners and we invest our time and resources to ensure the ongoing success of the SPARTA MACUFE CUP believing that together we can take the Free State Province forward. This event also affords us the opportunity to end the weeklong MACUFE festivities on a high note and there could not have been a better way to do that other than a soccer match between two of the most followed national soccer teams, namely Bloemfontein Celtic and Kaizer Chiefs.

The SPARTA MACUFE CUP is an annual sport event that we pride ourselves with as the Free State Province and it continues to occupy a special place on our sporting calendar.

Thank you all for supporting the 2016 SPARTA MACUFE CUP!
